There Is A Sci-Fi ‘Tetris’ Movie In The Works

No, your eyes are not deceiving you and yes, you read that correctly. The list of unnecessary video game adaptations is about to get just a wee bit longer with Tetris: The Movie (not an official title). Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff broke the news in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, calling the upcoming film "a very big sci-fi epic." Oh boy. I don't know about you, but when I think of Tetris, that addictive puzzle game that came packaged with my Game Boy way back … [Read more...]

“Blade Runner 2” Has a Script

blade runner

It looks as if that Blade Runner 2 is actually happening.  In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ridley Scott announced that the much-speculated sequel to his neo-noir science fiction tour-de-force has a finished script, saying that "it’s written and it’s damn good.”  He goes on to suggest that Harrison Ford will also be returning as Rick Deckard, though the actor has yet to respond to these assertions.  Original screenwriter Hampton Fancher and newcomer Michael Green were responsible for … [Read more...]

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Early Reviews are Mixed (Update: Just Kidding)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The early reviews for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are in, and they're not nearly as brutal as expected.  Granted, they're not particularly good--the Metacritic score is currently at 39 with 4 reviews, and Rotten Tomatoes is giving it a 40% "rotten" rating with 10 reviews in.  These scores are inevitably going to fluctuate as we get closer to the August 8 release date, but early reviews usually provide a decent indicator as to how well a movie will be critically received.  As it currently … [Read more...]

“Ghostbusters” Reboot May Feature an All-Female Leading Cast

It's been a long wait, but it looks as if the Ghostbusters franchise will actually be coming back to movie screens--with a slight twist.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) is the current front-runner tapped by Sony Pictures to direct the next installment, and it may feature an all-female Ghostbusting team. The gender-swap will be an interesting take on the franchise if it actually happens, though it's not exactly that jarring of an idea.  The Ghostbusters … [Read more...]

Will there be a Sci-Fi “Con Air” Sequel?

Con Air

Ah Con Air.  The most Michael Bay-esque movie that has nothing to do with Michael Bay.  When it comes to pre-Y2K action filmmaking, it's got everything you need: nonsensical plot, deranged villain, high-velocity confrontation, Nicolas Cage.  A true testament of the notion that "they don't make 'em like they used to."  Yes, it's a stupid movie, but if watching Con Air doesn't get you even a little excited, then there's a good chance you don't have a pulse.  I recommend going to doctor and getting … [Read more...]

Hot Tub Time Machine 2

Time travel is awesome.  It's also ridiculous.  You know it, I know it, and the ragtag team of fools from Hot Tub Time Machine know it.  It was only a matter of--ahem--time before we got a sequel to the 2010 sci-fi comedy, and here's a red band trailer to prove it really exists.  And it's actually happening.  Or it's going to happen.  Or it already happened.  Whoa.
