Civil War

Review

A team of journalists crosses a fractured, war-torn America in a race to interview the president before rebel forces overtake the capital. Visually striking and technically assured, the journey plays like a post-apocalyptic road movie without the zombies, delivering sustained tension but little emotional connection. Its focus on the ethics and supposed neutrality of exploitative journalism makes for effective shock cinema, especially given its proximity to the real-world 2024 election. Still, by sidestepping deeper examinations of nationalism and pride, it feels like a missed opportunity shaped by its own moment.
