Companion

Companion is intermittently hilarious and a thought-provoking critique of toxic masculine entitlement, but it leans too heavily on narrative conveniences to deliver any real profundity. Ideas of love and abuse are given effective credence, only to collapse under the weight of the film’s own continuity by the end. The early stretch is especially strong, driven by standout performances and a clever reveal that hints at something deeper. That depth, however, is never reached, and the film ultimately embraces chaos over clarity.
