Review
It’s What’s Inside is a tough movie to follow. Sure, it’s a body swap thriller, so maybe some confusion is intentional—but the characters are so thinly written that it feels more like a flaw than a feature. They’re so shallow that even ants wouldn’t drown in them, which is frustrating because the performances are actually quite strong.
For a while, the film’s energy is kind of infectious. The pacing is relentless, and there’s a sense that things could spiral out of control at any moment. But once the characters—never really defined to begin with—start revealing their nefarious intentions, the cracks start to show. A completely bonkers third-act reveal should raise the stakes, but it never really does.
It doesn’t help that everyone in this movie is a jerk. The characters are predictable, unlikable, and hard to root for, which is a big problem for a lower-budget horror film that can’t rely on spectacle. A few moments of tension land, but without anyone worth caring about, it’s hard to stay invested.
What does work is the horror itself. When It’s What’s Inside wants to be creepy, it absolutely nails it. The actors commit, the atmosphere is unsettling, and I spent a good chunk of the runtime on edge—good job, movie. If only the rest of it gave me a reason to care.
