Lisa Frankenstein

Synopsis

Set in 1989, a misunderstood teenager coping with the loss of her mother encounters a reanimated corpse and forms an unusual relationship with him.

Review

A mean-spirited 80s throwback that effectively channels Tim Burton-esque surrealism, the film unfortunately inherits the intrinsic shallowness of both influences. Most characters are unlikable, and the jokes rarely land, leaving its primitive, unoriginal ideas in the spotlight. On the bright side, it’s visually appealing—aside from the occasional goopy horror—and the story hints at interesting developments, though it never fully commits, ultimately settling for made-for-TV rom-com sensibilities.
