Primitive War

Set during the Vietnam War, a U.S. recon unit’s search-and-rescue mission goes catastrophically wrong when it encounters deadly dinosaurs in the jungle. It’s a ridiculous premise played completely straight, with war-movie pulp treated with equal amounts of pomp and sincerity, somehow working far better than it has any right to. Clever camerawork that hides a microscopic budget and a full commitment to its own nonsense help soften the blow from the occasional questionable effects shot and an overlong runtime. Witnessing well-crafted dino carnage outside the constraints of the Jurassic-family lineage is also a welcome treat.
