The Long Walk

Review

A harrowing, unrelenting, and mostly effective trek through a dystopian future where economically desperate boys are funneled into a nationally sanctioned endurance walk for a chance to win whatever their hearts desire. It’s one of the better Stephen King adaptations, capturing inevitable horror with exactly the kind of humanist attention that gives us reason to care. While slightly let down by a sagging midsection and some relatively inexplicable diversions from the original source material, it remains a testament to humanity in the face of exploitation and does enough right to forgive any missteps.
